For the past few years, I have primarily been making painting installations composed of small oil paintings on wood. Each installation consists of paintings that function as records of my movement and experience in the world. The paintings depict the spaces that I inhabit and the things I see or think about as I move through these spaces.

ここ数年、私の作品は絵画によるインスタレーション（壁全体、空間全体を作品とするような作品）の形をとっており、小さい木片に描かれた複数の油彩によって構成しています。各々の絵は、私の動きや経験の記録です。私の生活の場（家、アトリエ、画廊、オフィスなど）と、そういった空間を自分が動きながら目にしたり考えたりする物事を描いています。

一つひとつの絵は２～３cmのものから手の平大、どれも小さな絵です。その小さい、けれど分厚い木の画面に丁寧に描かれた風景は、彼女の視点から日常をスナップにとるような連続と断片シーンで構成されています。

彼女が毎日運転するロサンジェルスを南北に走るフリーウェイと、東西に走るフリーウェイを各々上下、左右に並べ、彼女の行動地図になっています。絵のサイズは行き先との距離を表しているそうです。画面が大きくなると目的地に近付くといった具合に。

また運転しながら頭に浮かぶことも描いてあり、タイトルの『wanderings（さまよう）』は、行動だけでなく、頭の中の空想なども含めたwanderingsでもあるわけです。確かに動きながら、頭の中も常に何か考えたり思い出したりしていませんか？　

典型的なロスの風景もこのサイズと絵のタッチでパーソナルな感じになっていて、誰もが思い描く風景とプライベートな風景との間には、はっきりした境界線があるわけではないのかもしれないです。

アート・センター・カレッジ・オブ・デザイン（カリフォルニア州）の修士過程修了。ロサンジェルス在住。ロサンジェルス、サンフランシスコ、シカゴにおける個展をはじめ、アメリカ以外でもオーストリア、ドイツ、イギリス、スイスなどのグループ展にも数多く出展している。

MFA from Art Center College of Design, CA. Elizabeth lives in Los Angeles. She has exhibited her works in a number of solo shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago, as well as group exhibitions in the U.S., Austria, Germany, England, and Switzerland.

在ニューヨーク。新進作家およびアーティスト・イン・レジデンスなどのプログラムについて気ままにリサーチ中。ハンター・カレッジ人類学修士過程では知覚進化やアートの起源がテーマ。

Aya Kinoshita Harazono
Aya lives in NY, researching emerging artists and such art programs as artist-in-residence. Currently studying for a Masters in Anthropology at Hunter College. Her interests are lie in the evolution of human cognition as well as the origin of art.
